Have you ever wanted to play on a life size Monopoly Board!?
Well, we did! The CluedUpp team took part in the Monopoly Lifesized experience in London - say what!?!
We hear you ask; What is Monopoly Lifesized!?
Pretty much what you’d expect! It’s a brand new, high octane way of playing the planet’s favourite board game (unless you’re one of those people who chucks the board over when things aren’t going your way!)
Except this isn’t just your standard 19 x 19 inch board you get at home; it’s an immersive, on-your-feet experience where you play on a life size 15m x 15m board!
As you’re obviously a fan of unique things to do, we thought this would be right up your street (no pun intended) so we’re bringing you our first experience review!
You’re first taken into the lobby of the building where you’re greeted by real-life actors playing different Monopoly pieces of the board such as the Scottie Dog and the Thimble (all very much invested in their parts acting as helpful guides throughout the game) - even Mr Monopoly makes an appearance and leads the way with an enthusiastic introduction on what to expect!
As there were 12 of us, we were split into teams of 6 - which we obviously revelled in as we all love a challenge and a bit of competition!
There are four boards to choose from; Classic, City Board, Vault Board and a Junior Board for younger families. We chose to do the Classic board which paid homage to Monopoly we all know and love (or love to hate) and our experience began with a simple roll of a (giant) dice!
Then, you find yourself fully immersed in the world of Monopoly as you stand on the life size board amongst iconic street names like Leicester Square, Oxford Street and there’s even a life size jail cell you all have to clamber inside when you land on the jail square - but the big difference with this board is that you don’t just stand on the squares and pick cards; you actually go inside individual rooms where you compete in escape room style challenges!
From morse coding and sudoku, to unlocking safes whilst scrambling for the keys, building houses and hotels with blocks and much more - there were several challenges to sink our teeth into and we discovered each member within our teams had their own individual strengths and weaknesses!
In the end, it came down to which team had collected the most assets, houses & hotels and who had the most money left at the end of the game as we found ourselves racing against the timer to become the ultimate Monopoly champion!
Overall, the experience is very fast-paced, energetic and full of laughs and fun - it began and ended within a flash and we obviously cheered when both our teams came in 1st and 2nd place!
