How To Host Your Own Wonderland Tea Party

Alice in Wonderland Mad Hatter's Tea Party

You only have one birthday a year… but that shouldn’t stop you from hosting a Wonderland-inspired unbirthday party on any other day, just like the Mad Hatter.

To celebrate the launch of our brand new Alice in Wonderland experience, we’re going to guide you through how to set up, create and host your very own Mad Hatter tea party.

Send the invitations

No party can go ahead without sending your invites.

Once you jot down your list of potential party-goers, the fun part can begin in designing your exceedingly exciting invitations to get your guests’ anticipation rising.

Your invite has to both capture and enrapture at the very first glance. The brighter, more colourful and more magical, the better. But don’t forget about including the finer details like the chosen date and time (in fact, 6pm is the exact time the Hatter and his friends are stuck standing still as punishment - very appropriate!).

Decorate your table

The key is in the details.

If you’ve been saving the fancy china for those “special occasions” that never seem to come around, then this is the time to get it out. For the ultimate mad tea party, you really want to have a mixture of things on the table.

Think lots of cutlery, teapots, place settings, and table decorations to make your tea party so much more attractive to your guests’ eyes - after all, variety is the spice of life. Remember, the more mismatched, the better.

Party essentials

No use laying on a spread without the essentials - we’re talking napkins, tablecloths, etc.

Everyone knows a Mad Hatter’s tea party needs to be topsy-turvy and a little bit crazy, so we’d recommend going full-blown on a bright and bold colour scheme to accentuate your table decorations.

Eat me, drink me

Of course, no party is complete without deliciously delightful food and drink.

There is so much fun to be had choosing what you could serve your guests, so get creative.

You can’t go wrong with sticking to traditional quintessentially British tea-party treats like cakes, tarts and finger sandwiches - you could give them a Queen of Hearts spin by adding red jam and cutting hearts into them.

To quench everyone’s thirst, the only suitable option for a Mad Hatter’s tea party is obviously a pot of traditional tea served in a spiffing teapot. If you don’t have any tea drinkers, perhaps a fizzy beverage served in glasses with slices of lemon would be nice.

Then, give your treats the ultimate Alice in Wonderland makeover with some custom-made “Eat Me” and “Drink Me” labels.

Dress up for the occasion

The most marvelous Mad Hatter’s tea party requires everyone to dress for the occasion, especially the host!

The bolder, brighter and more ludicrous you look the better.

You can take some inspiration from the many film and tv versions of Alice in Wonderland. Find your favourite character, and get crafty to make an amazing costume.

Giving your guests a different hat to wear would be very fitting and you could turn it into a game by swapping hats during certain times throughout your party.

Party games and riddles

Keep your guests entertained with party games and riddles that the Mad Hatter would give his seal of approval to.

A few party game ideas that are low cost and easy to do include the Mad Hatter’s hat toss: line all your players up, grab your hats and see which player can toss their hat as far as they can - the one that flings their hat the furthest wins.

Put a spin on “pin the tail on the donkey” and turn it into the Cheshire Cat, recite riddles to each other and see who can solve the most.

Maybe avoid using the classic “why is a raven like a writing desk” riddle, because nobody knows!

If you’re looking to turn your day into something more exquisite, why not combine your Mad Hatter’s tea party with an outdoor adventure. Alice is missing and it’s up to you to save her - can you handle the challenge?

Head down the rabbit hole into Wonderland and take part in our brand new adventure today - limited tickets available.
